Manly Dam Mountain Bike Ride

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 08:00 to Mon, 30 Nov 2015 09:30

Manly dam mountain bike track is a dedicated track that gets great reviews, including from Mark and Luke who have decided to do it again and to invite others along.

The ride is for people with reasonable fitness and a mountain bike that wasn't a K Mart special and is in good condition. The track is one of the more technical in Sydney but any difficult parts can be walked through easily.  We will be doing the shorter 10km circuit.

If you need time to change and get your bike sorted, arrive earlier then the time as we will be leaving on the dot, before it gets too hot. Go here for more info and a few pics.  http://nobmob.com/rides/manlydam <http://nobmob.com/rides/manlydam>

Howes Valley-Bulga-Putty Dirt Explorer

Sun, 6 Dec 2015 00:00 to 23:30

Ed is doing some exploring up Bulga way and would welcome some company. The plan is to head off from Berowra, head as far as Laguna on the tar (or earlier if the roads are open) and take the Yango track across to Howes Valley on the Putty Rd. From there he wants to try and find Bulga Rd which parallels the putty road twisties up on the ridge top which is a fave of mine. The run will most likely include some or all of the Commission Rd as well which runs from Howes Valley to Jerries Plains. A bit of an explore. Ed will be on his 800GS Adventure so it’s doable on a big chookie but don’t expect country farm dirt roads, they’re fire trails.

Thursday Wollombi Day Loop

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 00:00 to 23:30

That’s right. A day ride. On Thursday.

Some clubbers work weekends and have trouble getting away, others can work their own hours, and others still are just plain bums (I think the technical term is leaners now), or maybe I’m just jealous of being able to ride on roads with low traffic and low enforcement. Dom works most weekends (and just to be clear, he is a lifter) and so has kindly put his hand up to lead a weekday run.

This will be a leisurely Wollombi loop with occasional detours. Dom mentioned; dropping in to see if the putty tea rooms are still running, having lunch at the Wollombi Tavern (usually too busy on weekends) and a visit to the Ken Duncan gallery in Erina. So come along and enjoy a leisurely weekday jaunt.

Hill End Ride - Sunday Nov 15th

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 00:00 to 23:30

Yahoo is leading this day run to Hill End. Often a weekend destination, but it's not really that far and can be done in a day. The plan is to leave from the BP servo in Kurmond (On the Bells Line of Road, just after the back road we usually take to bypass Richmond) and head to Hill End for lunch at Dave Darker's excellent "General Store". Back home for tea :-)

The route hasn't been planned yet but there are lots of options, long and short, so it may depend on who turns up. The most direct route is about 200km each way but it's not much further to go down via Jenolan Caves, Oberon, Bathurst and up to Hill End then we could make a loop of it coming back down the Mudgee road. That is an all-tar route now and has lots of great twisties and undulating back roads. There are various scenic detour options so let yahoo know your preference.

Evening Ride South - Thursday 3rd December

Thu, 3 Dec 2015 18:00 to Fri, 4 Dec 2015 17:30

This evening ride takes us south.  The royal is too busy on the weekends to be worth a visit but of a weekday evening it's nice and clear (at least after Bundeena). The plan is to cut down through the park, through Stanwell and on to Scarborough pub for a feed.  On the way home you can either do the park at night being careful of wildlife, or scoot up the Hwy back to Sydney.

Please contact us if you are interested in this event.

The Not One Damn Ferry Ride - Or The BBBB (Breakfast/Brunch Bridge to Bridge)

Sun, 8 Nov 2015 00:00 to 23:30

Not 5 ferries, not 4, not 3, not 2, not even 1.  We will ride past them all - bloody ingrates.  During the past I've had a somewhat tumultuous relationship with the 5 ferries ride.  This time I’ve decided to hell with ‘em all.  This time I’ll plan the ride on a bridge to bridge ski race weekend on purpose so we can’t do any of them even if we wanted to.

The plan is to stick to the north side of the Hawkesbury River the whole way around to Windsor.  Leaving from Berowra, stopping briefly to watch a few boats zoom past at a viewing point near Mt White, breakfast at Mt White or the Corrugated Café or Spencer at a stretch, your call, then continuing around through St Albans, Lower Portland to Windsor, probably finishing around 12:30-1.  We might stop off occasionally to watch more boats blat past if we can time it, and they’re not boring.  There are plenty of options to head off to make a longer day of it if you want.

Note: There is at least 20km’s of dirt on this ride

Please contact us if you are interested in this event.

Evening Old Road Ride

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 18:00 to Fri, 16 Oct 2015 17:30

The first evening ride of the year.  Just a short blat up the old road to either Calga or Somersby depending on time and inclination, returning to Brooklyn for dinner at the Anglers restaurant/pub (meals $20-35).

It's probably a little early in the season as sunset is at 7:10 and last light 7:33* so we'll need to get away at 6:30 sharp.

It seems civil twilight ends at 7:33, nautical twilight however ends 30mins later so since we're stopping next to the water we could choose that.  If you're an astral traveller you'll get another 30mins on top of astonomical twilight.

Please contact us if you are interested in this event.

Winter Wollombi Wanderers

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 00:00 to 23:30

I have free hire of a bike for a day, so I thought I'd organise a day ride. Just an easy Putty-Wollombi loop with lunch at Broke. Everyone and anyone is welcome to come along.

Approx. 300 - 350km

Please contact us if you are interested in this event.
