Breakfast and Beyond Ride

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 00:00 to 23:30

A breakfast run down to the Cliffhanger Cafe, perched on the escarpment at Bulli.  The food was great the last time I was there 5 years ago, about 1 hour before losing my licence when heading home through the national park.  And so this time I think I'll try heading south, down Mt Kiera, backway through Dapto, up Maquarie Pass and the backway through to Mittagong finishing with a detour into Avon Dam.

Karuah River Rally

Sat, 13 Feb 2016 00:00 to Sun, 14 Feb 2016 23:30

The Karuah River rally is on again.  A nice flat grassy campsite by Frying Pan Creek in the upper reaches of the Karuah River.  Nestled in the forests at the back of Dungog, it has a great swimming hole to cool off if the days warm (so bring your togs).  The club likes it so much we’ve won biggest turnout a couple of times.   We’ll head up via the putty, through to East Gresford and over the lovely twisties and scenery to Dungog for lunch at the pub. Pick up any supplies you need and then another 15kay bitumen and 14kay of good dirt later will find you at the rally site.

The rally isn’t catered but there are BBQ sandwiches available in the afternoon  Bring everything else.

Dungog is close enough for a day run if you can’t make the weekend.

Thursday Evening Ride - St Alban's Pub Pot Luck Dinner

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 18:00 to 21:30

Well that's what St Albans calls the thursday night meal.  Which I think means they’ll have a pretty limited menu, but they do cater gluten free and vego.  I’m sure everyone knows how nice a pub it is, built back in 1840 with convict labour.

So an evening run up to St Albans Pub for a meal.  The route will be finalised on the night.  There are a bunch of options  Either a little east and back along the lovely little Halcrows Rd before heading to Wisemans, or if we want to scoot along a little quicker taking the backroads to Lower Portland Ferry, crossing the ferry and on to Wisemans via Cliftonville Rd, or if everyone’s OK with it,  cutting over the dirt to Webbs Creek, finishing with the lovely bitumen along the McDonald River up to St Albans.

Gulgong Overnighter !!!!!!30th December!!!!!!

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 00:00 to 23:30

Very much last minute but if you're at a loose end for tomorrow and thursday mark is heading up to Gulgong for an overnighter.

He's staying at the Commerical Hotel.  It will be the usual loop up the Putty Rd and then back roads to Denman for lunch.  Next day will return over Bells with a little detour so we can return early.

If you're interested give Mark a call.   Accomodation is cheap and a little on the rough and ready side. If you want something a bit more swanky, book yourself into the Prince of Wales.

When: 9 for 9:30, 30th December.

The 14 Ferries Year Challenge

Sat, 31 Dec 2016 23:30

We’ve done the 5 Ferries ride many a time. One scheming over achiever also did a 6 ferries ride (who also sabotaged my earlier 5 ferries ride just to make it look all the more impressive - well that’s my story and I’m stuck on it.). Plus we’ve done 4,3,2 and 1 ferries, and now we’ve even done a dedicated no ferries ride.

Australia Day Longer Weekend Trip to Omeo

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 00:00 to Tue, 26 Jan 2016 23:30

With Australia Day falling on the Tuesday, taking the Monday off work gives us a nice 4 day weekend which allows us to get that extra distance. With it being a warm time of year the alps give a little altitude to ward off the heat. So we’ve chosen Omeo as the destination for the Saturday and Sunday nights, with the loaded dog as the Friday night starter. They are both booked.

Monday night is a tentative for Cootamundra. There’re a few interesting little roads that I’d like to do in that direction but I recognise that it might be hot so I’ll wait for a little feedback and I’m open to moving it to somewhere like Tumba, Talbingo or heading to the coast (and braving the end of school hols traffic).

La Perouse Fish and Chips non meeting meeting

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 19:00 to Thu, 17 Dec 2015 18:30

The december resto night non meeting meeting is fish and chips on Botany Bay, a nice spot on the water watching the twinkling lights. We’ve been there a couple of times and we can eat in the resto but it’s nicer to sit down by the water (about 30 meters from the resto).  Don’t be late as it closes at 8 and they’d like us ordering by 7.  Come down for the final club event before chrissy.

Manly Dam Mountain Bike Ride

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 08:00 to Mon, 30 Nov 2015 09:30

Manly dam mountain bike track is a dedicated track that gets great reviews, including from Mark and Luke who have decided to do it again and to invite others along.

The ride is for people with reasonable fitness and a mountain bike that wasn't a K Mart special and is in good condition. The track is one of the more technical in Sydney but any difficult parts can be walked through easily.  We will be doing the shorter 10km circuit.

If you need time to change and get your bike sorted, arrive earlier then the time as we will be leaving on the dot, before it gets too hot. Go here for more info and a few pics.  http://nobmob.com/rides/manlydam <http://nobmob.com/rides/manlydam>

Howes Valley-Bulga-Putty Dirt Explorer

Sun, 6 Dec 2015 00:00 to 23:30

Ed is doing some exploring up Bulga way and would welcome some company. The plan is to head off from Berowra, head as far as Laguna on the tar (or earlier if the roads are open) and take the Yango track across to Howes Valley on the Putty Rd. From there he wants to try and find Bulga Rd which parallels the putty road twisties up on the ridge top which is a fave of mine. The run will most likely include some or all of the Commission Rd as well which runs from Howes Valley to Jerries Plains. A bit of an explore. Ed will be on his 800GS Adventure so it’s doable on a big chookie but don’t expect country farm dirt roads, they’re fire trails.
